Shaping the World
Shapes, a step up from lines, "can be used to create an arresting image". (Stewart, 2012. pg. 10) This quote is a much simplified way of saying that shapes construct the very essence of the world around us and come in every tangible form imaginable. Referencing my original post about lines, once my son accomplishes the seemingly primitive task of striking a straight line across the page, hypothetically he could draw a vertical line and then coincidentally happen to draw another straight line, horizontal this time, running perpendicular to the vertical one. If placed in the correct position he could create one of the most symbolically poignant religious icons in history. The simple act of sketching two amateur lines births the shape of the Christian cross. It's amazing the story shapes can portray about this crazy thing called life.
